How beautiful is this dress?! I was so excited when Rose Marie Fashions reached out to me again for a collaboration, because I had my eye on this piece for a while. It is super well made, in a thicker material that will transition well into fall and winter. The dress has no slit, a back zipper and belt loops (I didn’t use them though.) To get this fit, I ordered up and had it tailored to my measurements.
The top three topics I am most frequently asked about are: 1. my hair, 2. my legal career, and 3. how I balance everything in my life. Honestly, if I wasn’t me, I would probably wonder how I balance things too because it can be tough!
I first started consciously balancing a lot of things during college. I was working a full time job, taking more than a full load of classes, super involved in my church’s music department and youth group and trying to keep up a fun social life, traveling a ton and investing time with loved ones. It was a very busy, demanding time and sometimes I would feel super overwhelmed, like maybe things were slipping through the cracks. Each time I finished a semester though, I felt SO incredibly accomplished and satisfied with all I had been able to squeeze in, that I stayed motivated to keep my plate just as full the next semester!
Since that chapter of my life, I’ve tried to consistently keep up with a full, balanced life. There have definitely been exceptions, like while I was studying for the California Bar Exam, then again when I studied for the Arkansas Bar Exam (I had basically no life during those times, aside from studying- it was rough.) Then other times when I just feel like I need a break from the fast lane to focus on my physical, spiritual and mental health. Generally though, give me all the things to do, please!
So how do I do it? Usually when you guys ask me, you list the obvious things I always have going on in my life, like my boutique (Skirt Society,) my marriage, my full time job and healthy eating. Of course, all of these things take a lot of my time and your questions make sense, so I wanted to dedicate a blog post to the subject! Here are my top three tips for balancing a LOT of life…
- Know your priorities and goals and write them down. This is definitely THE single most important step for you to take if you want to thrive while balancing many different priorities. I have a long term goal list, short term goal list, and I make daily goal lists (just my top five big things for each day). Ever since I actually started writing everything out, I have been able to prioritize better when pressing things come up and make decisions to further my goals every day.
- Keep a calendar and separate lists. I recently transferred my calendar back to Google, and it was such a good decision for me, since I can link separate calendars for my day job, my side hustles and personal items and my husband can access everything too. Since I primarily work at my computer all day, I always have my calendar open so I can click over to it whenever I need to check on something or add a new item. I also keep lists open on my screen in my Mac’s “Notes” app at all times. I have different tabbed notes for shopping lists, work tasks, Skirt Society tasks, etc. These notes are also accessible by iCloud on my phone and iPad. Talk about feeling organized wherever I am!
- Take care of yourself. Your physical, spiritual and mental health have to be kept up if you’re going to be the most efficient version of you! It’s super important that you devote an appropriate amount of time every week to taking care of yourself! Unlike goals and calendars, taking care of yourself should be part of your daily / weekly / monthly routine. In my life, this looks like healthy food prepping in advance, exercising regularly, reading my Bible and prayer, spending time with loved ones and enjoying this beautiful city!
